Racist?
March 9, 2009You’re on a plane. Right before take off, one last passenger is let on. He sits in the empty seat next to you. You glance over at him and notice that he’s young and Middle Eastern. He looks at you and smiles and then buckles his seatbelt. The plane takes off and about 20 minutes later you hear murmuring coming from the seat next to you. You look over and the young man sitting next to you is holding a small booklet in which all the writing is Arabic. His eyes are closed and he seems to be praying. He’s rocking back and forth slightly and sweating, although it’s freezing on the plane.
Would you be nervous?
lmao……ummmmm……
LOL!
Na, I would just assume that he was scared of flying.
Tash, stop lying! LOL!
good grief Monie! i probably wouldn’t go to sleep on that flight, watching him from the outer corner of my eye. lol
I ain’t gonna front, in this post 9/11 setting, initially, probably. Hopefully I will come to my senses and stop the foolishness. Feeling that way towards him is no different than the little white lady who clutches her purse when I get on the elevator. Sometimes, you just gotta check yo’self.
You’re right. This happened to me and I was nervous as hell. I felt bad afterwards cause he seemed like a nice guy.
good one. it won’t trap everyone, but that one will net a good chunk of the population. in the end, no matter how pc people try to be, everyone is guilty of racism on some level.
a question i used to ask my students who boasted of their nonracism: if you HAD to copy off of someone on your math exam, who would you choose, a (pick any race) kid, or a chinese kid?
Everyone is guilty of racism on some level…that’s very interesting and I think it’s true…
no. but there was a dude w/a turban on who was blatantly ignoring the stewardess when she came around to tell people to turn off phones and (in his case) laptops. i was like “IS YOU DUMB!?? [i lost all grammar] I’M NOT TRYIN TO DIE B/C YOU WANT TO GET IN ONE LAST CONFIRMATION W/HABIB!! AND YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF YOU!!” super racist and i know it.
BWHAHAHAHAHAAA! I believe everything up to the Habib part…Jam, I can’t believe you went there! LOL!
No I wouldn’t. I would assume he was just afraid of flying like me… except I would be praying in Latin because when I am scared, the good Catholic girl comes out in me from somewhere, lol.
That being said, I think in this current political climate, it is definitely a conscious choice to try not to be racist, not as instinctual as some would try to have you believe.
Hmmmm, agreed. LOL @ the good Catholic girl
*coming thru for the 1st time*
I don’t think that’s racist. In this post 9/11 era, I’m leery of EVERYBODY. I keep my eyes open and I see who’s around me. I won’t hesitate in a second to kickin somebody’s azz. Doesn’t matter who you are. LOL. There won’t be any trouble on my plane.
Welcome, Kyle! I think I’ve seen you comment on KB’s page…
I also am very aware of my surroundings. I think it’s become second nature for me. LOL @ there not being any trouble on your plane
I would have been staring a hole into him, watching his every move. It may be mean but hey, thats how things have transpired.
I know I’m racist sometimes, but I don’t think rationally that a terrorist would be so obvious. Think they would try to blend in more. I’m more worried about the white guy in the trench coat that looks like he just got laid off and might take us all out. LOL
lol who’s lyin? I am so serious. It wouldn’t phase me.
I agree with Cas though, I would be too worried about the white dude that keeps looking around and fidgeting with something under his jacket.
People in general make me nervous..so yes, lol
