What up? How was your weekend? Mine was fun and eventful. Like to hear about it? Here it go…
FRIDAY: Recently, I ordered a couple books from Amazon. I try to get my reading done over the summer because when I have classes, I can read nothing but school books.
I got:
Waiter Rant: Thanks for the Tip – Confessions of a Cynical Waiter
I found this guy’s blog and started to read it. He’s hilarious and it’s interesting to me to get the viewpoint of someone in the service industry in New York. By the way, the link to his blog is in my blog roll.
I Know This Much Is True
This was an Oprah Book Club pick. It’s fairly old but I’ve never read it and it was cheap.
A Virtuous Woman
Another Oprah pick. Again fairly old but cheap. I love adding books to my collection.
The Pillars of the Earth
This was another Oprah pick. However, this one was pretty recent. Apparently, the author usually writes spy novels but he went totally outside his niche and wrote this book. It’s about cathedral building in the Middle Ages. LOL! Oprah said she was surprised about how much she enjoyed this book but I was still skeptical. I have been looking for a good summer read so I broke down and bought it. When I got a box from Amazon at work, I set it aside thinking it was some security equipment we had ordered. When I opened it later, I saw that it was this damn book! It’s heavy as HELL, almost 1,000 pages. I started it on Friday and…I am just over halfway done. Hahahahaa! It’s THAT good. I love a good story and this author tells it so well…I almost feel like I have been watching an extremely interesting movie. At this point, I cannot wait to get home so I can keep reading.
SATURDAY: Saturday morning, I attended a funeral. My granny’s bestfriend passed away from lung cancer. She is like family so I wanted to go pay my respects. I remember when my uncles passed away, Rosie didn’t even hesitate…she took her toothbrush and her night clothes to my granny’s house and stayed with her for weeks.
My granny got up to say a few words at the funeral and I found out that she and Rosie had been best friends since they were 16 years old. She said that she never wanted for anything and anytime she needed Rosie she was there for her. It’s incredibly sad but I’m glad that Rosie is not in pain any longer. RIP, Rosie.
When I got home from the funeral, D and I started to straighten up the house a bit. We were hosting a game night. It was me, D, my BFF’s Ash and Teresa, and D’s BFF (lol) Kev and Kev’s friend Mike. There was a lot of drinking, a lot of laughing and a lot of fun. We tried to play Buzz but Mike seemed to be having a hard time…counting. *smh* We ordered pizza and played Questions but Mike couldn’t seem to stop answering the questions instead of asking another question. *blank stare*
Next we played Taboo. This was really fun. Me and my girls know each other so well, the boys were shocked when we were able to guess what the other was talking about with no problem. Example: I had to give the clues and they had to guess. All I had to say was “I had some of these in my purse the other day” They yelled out “UNDERWEAR” and they were right. Lord, don’t ask me why I had some panties in my purse. I don’t even know. It was a purse I hadn’t carried in a while, I was with Teresa and Ash when I happened to discover them.
Mike was TERRIBLE at keeping score (and drunk to boot) so somehow the boys were convinced that they won. Whatever.
Next, we played Win, Lose or Draw. Or…the ghetto version of it. D and I bought a huge dry erase board and mounted it on the wall. It was boys against girls again. One team would come up with a movie title and a person from the opposite team would get the title and have to draw it. Then that person’s team would have to guess what they were drawing. The boys were in the lead at the beginning. They were giving us super hard movie titles (ie. Boyz in the Hood…how do you draw that???). Then the girls started to make a comeback. It was tied at the end of the game and it was D’s turn to draw. We felt like we had a good chance of winning because Mike was stupid drunk and Kev was on his way. We thought that the movie was gave D was pretty hard. We just knew we were good to go! D drew some music notes and some stick figures with wavy arms. Me and the girls are yelling out stupid stuff trying to throw the boys off. Mike goes into the kitchen for another beer, comes back, looks at the board and yells out “Save the Last Dance!” We were fucking floored! That was the movie!!!!!
By this time, it was about 3am. We wanted to finish off the drinks we had made so we started to play I Never. Going around in a circle, each person says something they’ve never done. If someone else in the group HAS done it, they have to take a drink. It was fun and…interesting. I learned some new and exciting things about D. *side-eye* LOL! We played that for a while but had to stop when Kev and Mike passed out. There just happened to be a couple cameras laying around so we started taking pictures. I know now that I should never, NEVER, NEVER, EVER pass out around those guys. D went and got one of my dresses from our closet and put it over Kev’s head. Of course, we took a picture. OMG, we did some ridiculous shit to him. I’ll post some of the party pictures tomorrow. It was around 4:30am when Ash and Teresa left. D slept out in the living room so he could let Kev and Mike out when they woke up. He told me later that they didn’t leave until 8am Sunday morning. LOL! Good times.
SUNDAY: I did nothing but read Pillars all day. And recover from Saturday night. Ouch.
What did you do this weekend?
